The history of Schenker is not just a story about the company, but also for all the companies that eventually were merged and today are what we know as Schenker AS in Norway.
This story must therefore be told as the story of the major companies that now constitute Schenker in Norway.
We have therefore chosen to tell this in 3 parts - the story of Schenker the company, which was founded in 1872 in Vienna, the story of the Swedish companies Bilspedition or Autotransit, Skandiatransport and Einar Sundby and the story of former Linjegods.
At the very end is a chronology covering the most important dates in all the companies.
In Norway, the story of Schenker started in 1916 when Einar Sundby established his shipping business in what was called Kristiania (Oslo). This company was acquired in 1992 by the German Schenker and was eventually named Schenker Norway AS.
The reason for the establishment of Linjegods was the restrictions they had on the transportation side in Norway, with NSB almost totally in charge of all transport and some regular traffic companies that received permission (permits) to run certain routes.
